Use insights and reports
Where to look for what is happening in your venue, what Chefy sends you each day and week, and why live data beats a static export.
Everything in Chefy is live, and everything keeps its history. A recipe's cost is what it is right now, and you can also ask what it was on any day in the past, with everything Chefy has learned since folded in. That is the difference between Chefy and a report you exported last month: when a late invoice arrives, the export is wrong forever, while Chefy can show you both what the numbers looked like at the time and what they really were.
So the habit we recommend is simple: give your team access and look at the data in the app, rather than emailing spreadsheets around.
Look at these each week
- Dashboard: the venue at a glance, with an AI summary of what needs attention. Recipes over their COGS target show up here first.
- Insights: the venue report. Yesterday's items sold, gross margin and average COGS; what today is expected to do; recommendations and a single Top action to take.
- Sales: the summary, the menu engineering matrix and the trends, described in Connect Square.
- A menu item's insight page: open any recipe on the menu to see its items sold, gross margin and COGS, its day-of-week and time-of-day trends, and Chefy's read on its Strengths, Risks and Actions.
Drill into a recipe
Reports summarise; the recipe itself explains. Open a recipe and use:
- Inputs to see what it is made of and what each input costs today.
- Consumption to see how much of an input is being used across your recipes and menu, and how that has moved over the last 30, 60 or 90 days, by hour, week or month.
- The cost and sales graphs on the recipe to see how its cost per unit and its sales have moved over time.
Everything here follows the same rule: change the date range and Chefy answers for that period with the data it has now.
What Chefy sends you
You do not have to go looking every day. Chefy prepares:
- A daily summary each night covering the previous day: sales, production, changes made to recipes and products, invoices processed and orders placed, all in one place, and kept so you can go back to it.
- A weekly wrap-up for the venue.
- A menu item report for every item on the menu, each day, plus one on request whenever you want a closer look at a single dish.
These go to whoever in the venue has asked for them.
Static reports
Some things still need a fixed document. Reports holds the tax report: a BAS-style summary of the GST on your purchases for a month or a quarter. Treat it as what it is, a snapshot for the accountant, and go back to the app for anything you want to act on.
